Constantine of Greece, Queen Sofia’s brother, is admitted to the private hospital ‘Hygeia’ in Athens and is in critical condition, as published by some Greek media. At the moment, there is only the official confirmation of the Royal House of Greece about his hospital admission, but the causes that have led him to be in this delicate state are unknown.
Many local media have published that his admission is due to a stroke that the monarch would have suffered at home and others point to an admission caused by the coronavirus.
It should be noted that Constantine’s state of health has been very unstable for several years. At the end of 2021 he was admitted to hospital due to severe pneumonia and in early 2022 he was hospitalized after being infected with Covid-19. At the moment, the only thing that has transpired about his condition is that he is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), although he is not intubated.
His entire family has traveled to the hospital to accompany him in his lowest hours: his children, who live abroad, have traveled there and his wife, Queen Ana María, has not left his side for a single moment. Queen Sofia would have gone there after attending the last farewell of Pope Benedict XVI and the imminent arrival of her sister, Irene of Greece, is also expected.
