Alfa Romeo’s identity
With its design featuring the rugged looks, ground clearance, space and versatility expected of an SUV, the Alfa Romeo Tonale represents a new foray by the brand into the fashionable automotive segment, without sacrificing the sportiness, high performance and innovative technologies that have defined the «Alfista» identity since 1910. Towards electrified mobility
This model is also the flagship of a true metamorphosis of the Italian company towards electrified mobility that will culminate in Alfa Romeo becoming an all-electric company in 2027, reinventing the sports car in the 21st century.
Winks to classic models
With all this flurry of changes and transformations, one might think that the Alfa Romeo Tonale represents a break with the history of the brand. However, it only takes a careful look to discover nods to classic models that have proudly worn the «Biscione» on the front.
Tribute to several coupes
Precisely, the front of the Tonale is a tribute to several coupes, convertibles and sports cars of the brand. The triangular grille is already a classic. It has identified Alfa Romeo since the 6C 2500 won all categories of the prestigious Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance in 1949. Without leaving the front, the air intake located at the bottom partially cut with the grille recalls both the Stelvio and the «Disco Volante» prototype of 1952 and the legendary Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto of 1962.
Memories of other classics
Not to be forgotten is the light signature formed by two optical groups of three LED headlights, a 3+3 structure that immediately recalls two key vehicles of recent decades: the Alfa Romeo SZ of 1989 and the Alfa Romeo Brera that was marketed between 2005 and 2010.
Brand legends
The rear of the Alfa Romeo Tonale has surprised by the design of the rear lights. They are framed by elements that pay tribute to legends of the brand. The lower part of the V-shaped rear window is inspired by both the spectacular Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione coupé and the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B, a classic car produced by Touring in 1938.
Aesthetics of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s
As for the sporty design of the wheels, their structure formed by five circles reminiscent of the dial disc of old telephones takes up the aesthetics of two coupés very dear to Alfistas such as the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale of the 1960s or the Sprint of the 1970s and 1980s.
Sports roots
The interior of the Tonale bears the hallmark of Alfa Romeo’s history in the world of racing and sports cars. The instrument panel brings back the «Cannoncchiale» design, which provides immersive driving sensations and has its roots in Alfa Romeo’s sportiest vehicles.
